POLK, James (1795-1849). Autograph letter signed ("James K. Polk") as Congressman to Peter Hagur[?] the Third Auditor of the Treasury Department, [Washington,] 30 December 1830.

One page, bifolium, 251 x 200mm addressed in his hand on the integral leaf and docketed on verso (toned at repaired folds, marginal wear).

Polk encloses "for examination and decision, certain testimony and papers in support of the claim of John Mills for a house tract in the service of the United States during the last [war]." The request likely pertains to John Mills of New York, the son of Colonel John Mills who was killed at the battel of Sackett's Harbor during the War of 1812.
