First edition, in original parts, with all first issue points per Hatton & Cleaver save for: “visiter” for “sister” in part 4; the “Heads of the People” advertisement in part 8. 20 parts in 19, octavo (225 × 140mm). Half-title, engraved frontispiece portrait by Maclise and 39 engraved plates by Hablot K. Browne with all of the advertisements as called for by Hatton & Cleaver (light soiling and occasional spotting, “The Five Sisters of York” toned, few others lightly toned, heavy spotting in part 13’s and part 15’s plates, repair in “The recognition’ affecting foreground grasses, repair at top of p. 129). Original green wrappers (some repairs, in parts 1 and 13’s front wrappers, few rebacked, part 7 front wrapper upper margin extended, stains and few soiled); green cloth box.
