A final shot of Neptune from Voyager 2 as it began its journey out of the solar system.

[NASA caption online]
This false color photograph of Neptune was made from Voyager 2 images taken in January 1996. The image reveals the presence of a ubiquitous haze that covers Neptune in a semitransparent layer... Near the edge of the planet, the haze scatters sunlight at higher altitude, above most of the methane, causing the bright red edge around the planet… The image is among the last full disk photos that Voyager 2 took before beginning its endless journey into interstellar space.
11 x 14in. (27.9 x 35.6cm.)
Provenance
From the personal collection of Dr. Bruce A. Goldberg, an astronomer active with the Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) at Caltech and later the USAF Phillips Laboratory, c. 1970s-1990s.
