First edition of this milestone work on Hawaiian ornithology describing many previously unknown species. Eight parts in one volume, quarto (320 x 255mm). 64 hand-colored lithographed plates after and by F.W. Frohawk, being 63 fine illustrations of birds and one of eggs; plus three lithographed plates of bird structures after H. Gadow by J. Klinkhardt, one of which is partially hand-colored; three photographic illustrations of birds' nests; and a lithographed map of the Hawaiian Islands by E. Wilson (a very few scattered spots near beginning). Near contemporary green half morocco, top edge gilt, other edges untrimmed; original printed wrappers and a "Notice to Subscribers" bound in at end (sunning to morocco, corners just showing).
