"James Sherard (1666-1738), botanist and apothecary, had gardens at Eltham, south of Greenwich, famous for rare plants. Two volumes in one, folio (466 x 286mm). Half titles. 325 engraved plates, one of which [245, Caroline Rose] partially hand-colored (last leaf a little dustsoiled, occasional light even toning). Contemporary calf (joints splitting, wear to boards). Provenance: Earls of Macclesfield (bookplate and blindstamps on title and first leaf).
