COHEN, Leonard (1934-2016). Let Us Compare Mythologies. Drawings by Freda Guttman. Montreal: McGill Poetry Series by Contact Press, 1956.

First edition of Cohen’s first book, signed on the front endpaper in the year of publication: "Leonard Cohen May 1956." Let Us Compare Mythologies shows a young poet experimenting with styles and beginning to explore themes—Judeo-Christian imagery, philosophy, sexuality, death, a world of violent contrasts—that would define his future literary and musical careers.

Octavo. Half-title. Original black cloth, spine titles in silver (short tear to head of spine). Pictorial dust-jacket (some wear to spine panel with loss at ends and adjacent area of rear panel, wear along flap folds, a couple spots of soiling).
