First edition of "one of Heywood's most interesting pot-boilers" (Pforzheimer). Merlin is an important figure from British myth, associated primarily with the tales of King Arthur but with roots going further back into the mists of Welsh legend. Quarto (174 x 128mm). Etched frontispiece, ornaments and initials (lacking "To the Reader" leaf, frontispiece trimmed and window-mounted, title repaired; borders of title just shaved, a few small tears, some stains). Modern calf over marbled boards, edges gilt. Provenance: initials "JB" on title and frontispiece.
