LINCOLN, Abraham (1809-1865). Letter signed ("A. Lincloln") as President to Henry A. Brown, Washington, 13 March 1862.

One page, bifolium, 250 x 198mm (toned, some separation to folds on blank integral leaf). Hinged to a mat and framed together with an albumen photograph (206 x 160mm) with an excised portion of the original mount title (matted separately below): “THE LAST PHOTOGRAPH OF PRESIDENT LINCOLN. TAKEN ON THE BALCONY AT THE WHITE HOUSE, MARCH 6, 1865.” (photo lightly foxed). Body of the letter in the hand of John HAY (1838-1905).

Thanks for engravings of McClellan: "the likeness is perfect." Lincoln writes Henry A. Brown, the Boston representative for the London Printing and Publishing Company, Ltd. to thank him for "the receipt of the engravings of General McClellan, two of which I have sent as you requested. Please accept my thanks for the present. The Engraving is very beautifully executed and the likeness is perfect." Written shortly before McClellan left Washington to begin the Peninsular campaign.
