JOHNSON, Andrew (1808-1875). Autograph letter signed ("Andrew Johnson") as President to an unnamed correspondent, Washington, 6 October 1867.

One page, 202 x 126mm, in pencil on Executive Mansion stationery (light soiling).

Johnson introduces "Mr. Wales of Baltimore," describing him as "a gentleman of character and high standing, for whom I beseech such favor as you may find consistent with the public interest - Mr. Wales is my friend and you can confide in him as such with confidence." Autograph letters by Andrew Johnson as President are scarce.
