Dr. Manuel José Vieira, Sercial Madeira 1870
Ex Christie's. Bin-soiled labels. Levels: two 4cm and one 4.5cm
From Vieira family collection. In June 2016 I packed this exceptional collection from the old quinta house in Funchal. Uneven late 19th century long neck bottle with bin soiled paper label.
Tasting note: Light orange color with yellow rim. Elegant slightly sweet nose of mandarins, caramel and fresh straw. Nice expressive and pure. Fine soft start of taste, florally aromatic with a dry direct final. Classic Sercial. Clean dry finish, focused, leaving fine aromas of fresh baked bread on the after taste.
A quite seductive Sercial, would even say feminine, with fine floral tones on the softly dry taste. Very good. Love this wine. 96p. Last tasted December 2016. Edwin Vos
