VisiCalc for the Apple® II, developed by Dan Bricklin with help from Bob Frankston and released in 1979 by their company Software Arts, was the first commercial spreadsheet program. It was instrumental in the early success of the Apple II computer and directly inspired such influential programs including Lotus's 1-2-3 and Microsoft's Excel.
EasyWriter was the first commercial word processor developed for the Apple II platform. Released in 1979 by Cap'n Software, it was developed by John Draper, also known as Cap'n Crunch, a famous 'phone phreak' who, in the 1970s, developed techniques for tricking the AT&T network into giving free phone calls.
