JUNG CHANG (b.1952)
Wild Swans. London: HarperCollins, 1991.
First edition inscribed by the author with a long and personal account of her experiences during the Coronavirus pandemic. Wild Swans tells the moving story of three women – the author, her mother and her grandmother – and their lives amongst the political and social revolutions of twentieth-century China. Across six pages at the end of the volume and continuing on a loosely-inserted portrait of her mother, Chang provides a heartfelt account of her personal circumstances over the last couple of years. Titled ‘My Mother & My Family at the Time of Coronavirus’, the inscription underlines the author’s pain at being unable to visit her mother in China and expresses pride in her nephew who has worked on the frontline as a NHS doctor.

Octavo. Original green cloth, gilt lettering to spine, pictorial dust jacket.
