Lot Essay

Seven Colors represents the core interests of Sarah Charlesworth in both light and color. The digital print is realized by photographing a staged scenario, in which the artists arranged seven mounds of powdered pigment to recreate the spectrum of colors. The subject matter's bold color is used to reflect on the relationship between physical reality and theoretical content. Furthermore, Charlesworth evokes the color theory with a high sense of aesthetics, realizing a pleasing composition of vibrant colored stockpiles. Ultimately, Seven Colors investigates the affiliation of light with chemical material properties questioning the viewer's state of perception.
