Lot Essay

Executed in 2012, Ann Cathrin November Høibo’s Untitled #02 and Untitled #07 present immaculate bronze casts of instant noodles. A recent graduate of the Oslo National Academy of the Arts, Høibo originally trained as a tapestry weaver, but has since cultivated a unique multi-media practice that aims to collapse the boundaries between the mechanically-produced and the handmade. These intricately-wrought, lustrous simulacra of a ubiquitous, mass-manufactured food item speak directly to her fascination with the relationship between craft and commerce. Untitled #04 was included in Høibo’s first solo show at Standard (Oslo) in 2012. She has since exhibited at institutions including the Oslo Kunstforening and the Kristiansand Kunsthall.
