Stik represented Hackney at the annual Pride Parade in London where he displayed his two-metre bespoke banner mounted on top of a black taxi during the procession, which was later placed on display at Hackney Museum. The hand-crafted banner was commissioned by Hackney Council and was produced in collaboration with Flagmakers Ltd., one of the oldest flag makers in Britain. The money raised from the sale of Stik’s Hackney Pride Banner will be donated to support young LGBTQI+ people through Hackney’s Project Indigo. This LGBTQ youth group and counselling service offers people who are questioning their sexual or gender identity to gather together and discuss their experiences in a supportive and open environment whilst meeting other like-minded youths. These young people will also be given the chance to curate an exhibition centred on Hackney’s rich and diverse LGBTQI+ heritage with the guidance of curators. The exhibition will be displayed in Hackney Museum during LGBT History Month in 2018. Hard copies of the archive will be distributed to all local schools and will be permanently available online as a public resource. As a result, thousands of people will better understand Hackney’s LGBTQI+ legacy, empowering people both locally and globally.
