Invented by a team of researchers at Oxford University, Ai-Da Robot, the first ever humanoid robot artist, produces abstract paintings created with coordinates from her drawings of organic structures such as trees and animals which are then plotted into AI algorithms that interact with the Cartesian plane to print the intricate visual result onto the canvas, which is later finished with the help of human artists.
Shattered Space Narem Quercus is a work from Ai-Da's ‘Shattered Space’ series featuring abstract geometrical shapes in shades of green and brown, in a style deriving from the influences of early 20th-century artists such as Pablo Picasso, Max Beckmann and Käthe Kollewitz. In comparison to her other works within the series, the Shattered Space Narem Quercus contains much more saturated colours, highlighting the stark contrast between the different tones, enhancing depth and dimension of prismic shapes.
