Inscribed ‘Abe + Mimi…Dec 25, 1964’ on the reverse; this spontaneous, charming work on paper gives a glimpse into Christmas Day 1964 with the artist. Abe and Mimi Adler opened the Adler Gallery in Beverly Hills in 1967; while Mimi was later also a founding member of the Contemporary Art Council of LACMA and of the Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles. The natural enthusiasm of Francis’ love of paint is clearly apparent in the thick splashes of vibrant primary colours across the page that he presumably made to commemorate a happy festive gathering with friends.

The sheet is hinged in places on the reverse to its underlying support. The right vertical edge is deckled. It is our view that the work appears to be in very good condition.
