Lot Essay

Christopher Wilmarth only created 150 sculptures in his short lifetime with several related works on paper. In his glass and steel sculptures, light was Wilmarth's primary focus, and his sensitivity to light and its properties is equally explored in his works on paper. In the present lot, the pastel and graphite are nearly weightless and light-filled in their transparency, while a blue curvilinear brushstroke provides some semblance of a horizon.
