The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
The painting presents well in natural light, with the delicacy of execution well preserved. The painting is executed on paper that has subsequently been laid on a panel support. There has been some slight flattening to the paint as a result of this process. The panel is made up of one board. The support remains stable. In natural light there is evidence of some retouching to the shadows of the flesh tones. Examination under UV light reveals retouchings to the edges, necessitated by frame abrasion. There is scattered retouching in the Madonna's head and hair. The green of the costume has been quite extensively retouched. The paint remains stable.
