The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
This Pembroke table is in good overall condition.
As stated in the cataloguing text, there are remnants of apparently a contemporary trade label to the underside of one of the leaves.
The whole has been cleaned and repolished at some time and the present finish is a little faded. There are traces of a very slight pot ring to the centre.
There are traces of apparently original red wax infill to the engraved decoration to the marquetry, there are also minor losses, chips and repairs to the veneers, most notably there is a small patch to the centre of the fixed frieze panel(opposite the opening drawer), probably where there was originally a faux keyhole and there are some losses and repairs to the edges. There is a loss to the edge stringing to the left side of the drawer.
There are some losses to the glued blocks/drawer runners to the underside of the table although the drawer still functions relatively well. The hinged brackets supporting the open top are replacements, probably circa 1900, there would have been the usual wooden brackets originally, the present brackets work well and are firm.
Some of the moulded collars to the top and base of the legs have been re-glued and some maybe good, old replacements, there is one section lacking to the base of one leg.
The castors are good, apparently old, sympathetic, replacements.
Overall minor marks, knocks, scratches and wear consistent with age and use.
This attractive table is structurally sound and is in generally good, usable overall condition.
