The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS CONDITION REPORT WAS PREPARED BY HAMISH DEWAR, AN

Structural condition
The canvas has been lined onto what I assume is the original keyed wooden stretcher.
This is ensuring a sound support and has successfully secured the overall pattern of fine lines
of drying craquelure, which are characteristic of the artist. The overall structural condition
would appear to be good.
Paint surface
The painting has a rather uneven varnish layer.
Inspection under ultraviolet light shows the varnish layers to be very discoloured and opaque,
confirming how well the painting should respond to cleaning and revarnishing, and also
making the identification of retouchings difficult. The only retouchings that fluoresce clearly
are around the framing edges.
Summary
The painting would therefore appear to be in very good and stable condition and the overall
appearance should be significantly improved by cleaning and revarnishing.
