The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.

The painting has been executed on panel, which has been cradled to the reverse. As a result of this process there are some minor horizontal cracks visible in a raking light to the recto, with associated retouchings. In natural light there is evidence of some retouching to the background, flesh tones and hat. Examination under UV light confirms these observations and reveals some further scattered retouching to the sitter's hair and costume. The paint and support remain stable.
