The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
This torchere is in fair overall condition.
As stated in the catalogue text, this object is composed from various elements possibly from the same English late 18th century interior with the addition of later elements (namely top and bottom, when assembled as a torchere, probably in the early 20th century.
There are areas of shrinkage and movement throughout, notably to joints, this has resulted in cracking, flaking and loss to the decoration with the most notable losses to the base. The whole has been varnished at some time which is what gives the yellow tone to the decoration overall. The top slightly loose and with visible patches, probably concealing screws from the time of construction.
Overall marks losses and wear consistent with age and use.
