Pair of handwritten letters from Hall of Famer and Pittsburgh Pirates owner Barney Dreyfuss (1865-1932) to fellow Hall of Famer and player and manager of the Pittsburgh Pirates Fred Clarke (1872-1960). The letters, on Pittsburgh Athletic Company operating the Pittsburgh Base Ball Club stationary and include: a one-page letter dated October 11th, 1919 in which Dreyfuss discusses the 1919 World Series My dear Fred! The 1919 World Series is over and the Reds deserved the bacon – having outplayed and outfought the White Sox at every stage. Was at all the games but the last one and surely enjoyed them all…; and a two-page letter dated October 27th, 1919 in response to a letter from Clarke Glad to hear you profited by the victory of the Reds, they were the best team, as we had the best teams in 1917 and 1918 World Series, but were badly handled by McGraw and Mitchell. In fact it was McGraw losing three World Series to the American League which made people think the American were superior to the National and of course Ban Johnson’s press agents did the rest… Both letters are signed Barney Dreyfuss in blue ink. Overall Excellent condition.
