An un-cracked Spalding, Ring bat dating from the c.1886 labeling period. Exhibits excellent use with ball marks visible on all sides of the barrel along with tape residue on the handle in a spiral pattern. The bat also features a stamped center ring imprinted with the Spalding logo, patent date, and bat weight. A silver oval placard is mounted on the back barrel engraved with a baseball diamond and the images and names of the position players including C. Nichols (only 16 at the time) on the mound. On the back of the center ring is a small shield shaped placard engraved Won by Blue Ave. B.B.C. and on the bottom of the knob a small metal disc engraved Bonner Springs Tournament, July 5, 1886. Hall of Famer Charles “Kid” Nichols (1869-1953) would go on to an illustrious career in the Major Leagues, winning 361 games in a career which spanned from 1890-1906, culminating in being elected to the Hall of Fame in 1949. A photograph of Nichols holding the offered bat in 1949 accompanies the lot. Authenticated and graded by PSA/DNA GU 10.
