An un-cracked Spalding, Pre Model number bat dating from the “Dead Ball” 1890-94 labeling period. Exhibits heavy use with ball marks visible on all sides of the barrel. The bat also shows a lathe mark on the top barrel along with a mounting hole visible and eye hook mounted on the knob. Attached to the bat is a mailing label addressed to Mr. TH Murnane, 12 Manchester Road, Brookline, Mass (Timothy Hayes Murnane (1851-1917) was a former baseball player and later baseball editor for The Boston Globe). Additionally an inscription reads This ash used bat by MJ Kelly while on Allentown of the State League in 1894 before his death. Given to TH by J Molvey of the ABBC of PA. Joe Molvey, a teammate of Kelly’s on the Allentown Kelly’s Killers of the Pennsylvania State League obtained the bat directly from Hall of Famer Mike “King” Kelly (1857-1894) before his untimely death at age 36. The bat was then gifted to Boston sports editor Tim Murnane. Authenticated and graded by PSA/DNA GU 10.
