Remarkable sterling silver presentation bat awarded to Sam Wise (1857-1910) of the Boston Beaneaters for leading his team with a .334 Batting Average, fourth best in the National League behind Hall of Famers Sam Thompson, Cap Anson, Dan Brothers and John Montgomery Ward. The handcrafted silver bat is decorated with intricate floral relief detailing, along with a resplendent figural of Wise in his batting stance, BOSTON clearly engraved on his 1880s style uniform. The bat is additionally engraved Presented by the Boston Globe to Samuel W. Wise, Champion Batsman of the Boston Baseball Club, For the season of 1887.
