In this state, Toulouse-Lautrec's double portrait print was used as a theatre programme for performances at the Théâtre de l'Oeuvre in February 1896. The programme was a double bill of Romain Coolus' play 'Raphaël' and Oscar Wilde's 'Salomé'. Toulouse-Lautrec's portraits are of the two authors. Lautrec here redrew a portrait of Wilde which he had made in London in May 1895, a few days before Wilde's final, disastrous trial that year. At the time that this programme was printed, Wilde was in Reading gaol. Coolus was a great friend of Lautrec.
