Lot Essay

This unique pen lithograph was created in approximately 1874, the year Pissarro began to experiment with lithography. Using a pen to draw the image offered Pissarro great control, resulting in a smooth, fluid line. Delteil only lists two other variants of this impression. In this unique example, the features of the woman's face are more finely defined and the trees extend further into the background creating a deeper perspective of the composition.
