Lot Essay

The dealer Ambroise Vollard commissioned Bonnard to complete an album of color lithographs. The final publication comprised of thirteen prints documenting various aspects of Parisian life. The view of the street corner from above utilizes a heightened perspective, inspired by Japanese prints. Bonnard worked closely with the printer Auguste Clot, experimenting with different color combinations. The colors used vary within the edition of this print, and the blue inks are often printed in light brown or gray instead.
