Mick Jagger: one print

Andy Warhol’s screenprint, Mick Jagger (1975), hung over the back bar of a famous Upper East Side nightclub, the Surf Club, from 1984 to 1989. The artist and Mick Jagger frequented the “Wolf of Wall Street” club, oftentimes accompanied by other 1980’s luminaries such as Keith Haring, Jodie Foster, Boy George, Rick James, and Jean Michel Basquiat. A master at capturing the raw essence of his subjects' features, Warhol renders the chiseled face of Jagger with masterful precision to create a truly intimate and visually gratifying portrait. Jagger's pose and washed-out features give the resulting images a dynamic and almost caustic ambiance to match the singer's well-known personality and the lively conversations that no doubt occurred in the Surf Club in the 1980s.
