Lot Essay

After studying illustration at the Medway College of Art, Joan Steel moved to London and worked at various studios and agencies. Her interest in painting began after studying a vocational course in Embroidered Textiles with City and Guilds.

Steel now belongs to three local art societies where she exhibits regularly. She also has had work exhibited at Chelsea Art Society.

Steel paints in oils and her subject matter is mainly the relationship between man and woman and their pets, often telling a story with a slight touch of humour.
