Lot Essay

Danish artist Peter Linde Busk’s striking paintings build on the traditions of European avant-garde movements such as Post-Impressionism, Fauvism, CoBrA and the Art Brut of Jean Dubuffet. Included in the Saatchi Gallery’s exhibition Kaleidoscope in 2019, I've got no expectations to pass through here again (2011) features one of the artist’s iconic figures, dominating the highly complex composition with his confident stance. These protean beings have their origins in figures from both mythical and popular culture, yet the physical forms are made up of a variety of eclectic materials which the artist has in his studio. The artist says his figures – both real and imagined – often take their own forms, with very little direct input from himself, and the resulting evocative and eclectic visual world is often as much a surprise to him as it is to the viewer. Widely exhibited in both London and New York, Busk’s work has been featured in the New York Times, Artforum and Art in America.
