First edition, the English issue with cancel title. "The English issue of The Piazza Tales is so rare that some bibliographers have doubted its existence. It was made up of the American sheets with the English publisher's cancel title leaf" (Reese). ABPC and RBH record the most recent copy selling in these rooms in 1981. BAL 13669.

Octavo. 16 pp. of ads at rear, English cancel title. Original cloth (rebacked with most of original spine laid down, a little loss grazing “P” in title; rubbing otherwise, wear at tips). Provenance: Mary Hill Roberts (gift inscription from W. R. Roberts).
