MELVILLE, Herman (1819-1891). Redburn: His First Voyage. London: Richard Bentley, 1853.

A second copy of the remainder issue, gathering sheets from the first printing into a single volume with a cancel title dated 1853. This binding differs slightly from that of the preceding lot; both are bound in red cloth but the spine titles on this copy are smaller and the covers are patterned differently. BAL 13659 (note).

Thick octavo. (Ink spatter to text block, lacking one page of preliminaries in volume 2.) Original red cloth stamped in gilt, type on spine measuring 5 mm, covers decorated in blind (repairs to spine and tips, some soiling).
