Lot Essay

A century ago, Highclere Castle was the seat of the 5th Earl of Carnarvon, who, in 1922, famously discovered the Tomb of Tutankhamun with archeologist Howard Carter.

The 8th Earl and Countess recently opened a new Egyptian exhibition throughout the cellars of the castle to celebrate the 5th Earl’s achievements.
