A colourful visual representation of this tribute to Beethoven's 9th Symphony.

Computer printed heading, calligraphic manuscript in several colours of felt tips, one leaf, 279 x 433mm.

Thomas's 'map of form' outlines the 'Transformations', including 'Rhythmic Syntax' and 'Colors', the rhythms, orchestration and mood of each section, the timing, 'Dynamic Shapes', 'Pitch and 'Pitch Transformations' of the work as it evolves. The manuscript is illustrated on Thomas's website, https://augustareadthomas.com/composition/aureole.html, together with a recording and programme note by Michael Lewanski illuminating the ways in which Aureole is inspired by and alludes to Beethoven. The work was commissioned by DePaul University School of Music and first performed by the university orchestra at Symphony Center, Chicago, on 29 May 2013, with Cliff Colnot conducting.
