Lot Essay
John Kobal is credited with essentially ‘rediscovering’ many of the great Hollywood Studio photographers – George Hurrell, Laszlo Willinger, Clarence Sinclair Bull, Ted Allan, William Walling – who were employed by the movie studios to create the glamorous, iconic portraits of the most famous and compelling stars of the day that now epitomize the Golden Age of Hollywood. In the 1970s and 1980s Kobal reunited these forgotten artists with their original negatives and worked with them to produce new prints for exhibitions around the world. All photographs from the John Kobal Foundation in this sale were printed by the artist for and thanks to John Kobal.
This work was printed by William Walling for John Kobal (1940-1991).
