Painted in the mid-1980s when George Condo was still living in Los Angeles, the present lot is dominated by a central amorphous figure and surrealistic abstract forms against a background of land, sky and sea. The viewer's attention is focused by the tripartite structure created by the three stars, perhaps alluding to the technique of three point perspective, which governed art throughout history, specifically during the Renaissance. The figure’s waist is met by the horizon of the receding landscape, dividing not only the mountains in the background, but the figure in the foreground as well.
