Lot Essay

Self-taught artist Keegan McHargue creates dream-like, semi-abstract paintings and drawings that border on the absurd. In the two-part Waiting Room, 2006, a painted couple holding hands is then seen from behind in the black and white element. An expert draftsman, McHargue's composition is playful, yet symbolic - a labyrinth of unnamable apparatuses, light sources and body parts.
