Using a spare, minimal language, Landon Metz endows his works with a sense of autonomy by blurring the lines between architecture and art. Often described as “site-responsive," Metz’s paintings are often placed around corners, climbing up walls or flowing down to the floor. In the present lot, abstract, amorphous forms seem to float off the painting plane. Inspired by the color-stain technique of Helen Frankenthaler and Morris Louis, Metz bleeds dye into the canvas, making lighter-than-air forms.
