Lot Essay

In a world after the internet, Los Angeles-based artist Petra Cortright employs Photoshop to push the boundaries of traditional painting. Through numerous layers, sourced images online and digital brush tools, Cortright’s “digital paintings” call the earlier expressive techniques of Impressionism to a printed aluminum canvas. In the present lot, the artist digitally assimilates hints of yellow, floral impastos among chaotic ribbons of blue along a silvery horizon.
