Lot Essay
The first diptych is a design based on the play Gonin otokoikiji no hana kurabe. On the left sheet is the actor Iwai Kumesaburo III as Karigane Bunshichi and Ichikawa Ebizo V as Rai Shokuro. On the right sheet is the actor Ichikawa Kuzo II as Yasuno Heibei, Arashi Rikan III as Hotei Ichiemon, and Ichikawa Danjuro VIII as Gokuin Chiemon.

The first diptych has good impression and colour. Some soiling and rubbing to both sheets. Creases and wear to paper edges of both. The second two sheets are good impressions and colour, some creasing, light soiling. Extensive wormage repaired particularly to paper edges. The third two sheets good impressions and colour. Both sheets soiled, creased, wear to paper edges. Some repairs to left sheet. The fourth two sheets creased, slight fading and soiling. Pinholes to left sheet. Wear to paper edges of both sheets. The fifth, good impression and colour. Irregular trimming, creased overall and paper toning. Wormage. The sixth, good impression and colour. Creases, some soiling and binding holes to right edge. Wormage repairs to lower right corner. The seventh, good impression and fair colour. Some creasing, light soiling and rubbing and small damages repaired. The eighth, good impression and fair colour. Left edge with damages and restorations. Paper damages and repairs elsewhere. Soiled and creased.
