This dramatic design depicts a famous moment in the fourth Battle of Kawanakajima in 1561, which was one of a series of battles fought between Takeda Shingen of Kai Province and Uesugi Kenshin of Echigo Province in the plain of Kawanakajima during 1550s-60s. Here, Takeda Shingen's general Yamamoto Kansuke (centre) is shown on horseback, bravely charging into enemy lines to his death.
