Lot Essay

The central roundel of the shawl is surrounded by five-clawed dragons which is a rare and unusual feature, reflecting Tibetan or Chinese influence on the decoration. For a very similar shawl with dragons, see Pratapaditya Pal, The Arts of Kashmir, Asia Society, New York, 2007, fig.231, p.207.
