To be included in the catalogue of the paintings of Man Ray being prepared by Andrew Strauss and Timothy Baum.
The present work was painted in 1958, just a few years after Man Ray returned to Paris from America. The dynamic composition is inspired by the artist's lifelong interest in geometry and is formed by three intersecting shapes suggesting a bird.
'I was trying to destroy certain traditions, to leave the field clear again for a new approach to things’. Man Ray quoted in A. Schwarz, Man Ray: The Rigour of Imagination, New York, 1977, p. 59.
