MUGHAL INDIA, LATE 17TH CENTURY
Pen, black ink, opaque pigments and gold and silver on paper, the elephant adorned with gold-embroidered saddle-rug and silver bridles, his tusks covered in gold, a turbanned mahout drives him with an ankus, two assistants before them, holding a flag and fireworks, laid down between gold-speckled cream borders with gold, black and white rules, the reverse with defaced inscriptions
