Lot Essay

Girdhar Lalji was the head priest of the Haveli of Shri Nathji until he left Nathdwara in 1877. He was succeeded by his son, Govardhan Lalji (see lots 3 and 4). The tilkayats are thought to be the direct descendants of Vallabhacharya who founded the religious Krishna-centred Pushti sect of Vaishnavism. Wooden sandals belonging to Vallabhacharya are still worshipped in the Haveli of Shri Nathji.
