Bhupinder Singh became the Maharaja of Patiala in 1900 at the age of nine, after the death of his father. He represented India at the League of Nations in 1925 and was also a representative at the Round Table Conference. He was a keen sportsman and captained the Indian cricket team during their visit to England in 1911. Most renowned for his extravagant tastes, he would be driven in a motorcade of twenty Rolls Royce cars. He is known to have owned the world’s largest collection of medals. The Patiala treasury is also world renowned. Bhupinder Singh famously commissioned the ‘Patiala Necklace’ from the House of Cartier in 1928.
