Amoghapasa represents a tantric form of Avalokiteshvara, the bodhisattva of compassion, and is regarded as the tutelary deity of the Kathmandu Valley. The name Amogapasa means 'unfailing lasso,' and refers to an unfailing compassion which lassos beings out of suffering and into a state of happiness and towards enlightenment. The work is inscribed: May it be auspicious! The patron Saracham Nungu Simha Bharo manufactured the Glorious Sculpture of Amoghapasa Lokesvara in the place in the pure 8th day of Magh in the year samvat 674.
